English singer, songwriter, and actress Dame Vera Lynn began her career in the spotlight in 1935 but gained enormous success during the Second World War (WWII) as “The Forces’ Sweetheart.” Fearless, she toured as a performer for the Entertainments National Service Association where she entertained British and allied forces at outdoor concerts in Egypt, Burma, and India.

Amongst other distinguished honours, Vera Lynn was awarded the British War Medal 1939–1945 and the Burma Star.
