Shirley Ballas is the head judge on BBC’s widely popular Strictly Come Dancing, a dance contest where celebrities team up with professional dancers in ballroom and Latin competitions. She succeeded Len Goodman on the show in 2017 and made her first appearance four months later on 9th September, in what was the shows fifteenth season. She judges alongside Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.

Prior to Strictly, Shirley Ballas was a professional dancer and dance coach who has performed competitively since childhood, winning Professional Latin at Blackpool Dance Festival in 1983 with partner Sammy Stopford. She is one of the top and most decorated dancers in the world; she is three-time ‘British Open to the World’ Latin American Champion and multiple-times British National Champion. By the time she was 21, she had won almost every major title that she had competed in.

In 2009 she appeared on Dancing With The Stars (the US version of Strictly), giving master classes and commentating on the show. She has been a guest panellist on Loose Women (2018) and appeared on BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are in the same year.
