Rick Astley is an English singer and songwriter. His hit song in 1987 Never Gonna Give You Up was a number 1 hit in 25 countries and won the Brit award for Best British single in 1988. He had sold approximately 40 million records by the time he retired in 1993.
Rick parted company with his record producer and to leave his dance-pop days behind, moving towards his passion soul music. He also changed his image from the boy next door look and presented himself as a mature and passionate musician. He released an album “Free” containing collaborations with Elton John, reaching number 9 in the UK.
10 years after retirement, Rick returned to the music industry, releasing his first compilation album which reached number 16 in the UK albums chart. He toured for the first time in 14 years which led him to a record contract. Following this, Rick released several albums reaching 26 and 17 in the UK Albums chart. In 2008 “The Ultimate Collection” album reached Number 17 in the top 40 UK Albums chart.
Rick has proved popular as a radio DJ for Magic FM and co-hosted the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Peter Kay. He also appeared in Comic Reliefs Red Nose Day telethon. He recently released a single from his album, “50” saying that turning 50 was a big milestone, he had gone back into the studio and released his album which had reached number 1 in the UK Album Charts.
