Peter Vaughan was a British actor known for many roles in film and television.

He was best known for playing Grouty in the BBC series Porridge and appearing with Robert Lindsay in Citizen Smith. He also appeared in The Remains of the Day, playing the father of Anthony Hopkins as Mr Stevens.

More recently he is known for his role in the American fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” in which he played the part of Maester Aemon who was offered the throne of the Seven Kingdoms but relinquished the rule to his brother and joined the Nights Watch, he is elderly and blind and provides guidance to the men of the Watch.

Peter spent over 50 years in both film and television before his death in December 2016 at the age of 93.
