Niki Lauda is a retired Formula 1 racing driver, who was Formula 1 champion three times, in the years 1975, 1977 and 1984. He is currently the only driver to have been champion for both Ferrari and McLaren. Lauda is famous for his driving battles with the late James Hunt, especially the F1 battle of 1976 that was popularised into the 2013 film Rush. Lauda himself made a cameo at the end of this film. In the German Grand Prix of 1976, Lauda suffered a serious accident, when his Ferrari burst into flames and he came close to death after inhaling hot toxic fumes and suffering severe burns that left him permanently disfigured. However, a mere 6 weeks after the accident, he raced again at the Italian Grand Prix, a demonstration of his dedication to motor racing. After his retirement, he founded and runs two airlines: Lauda Air and Niki (sometimes styled as flyNiki).
