Neil Dudgeon plays the lead character, DC John Barnaby, in ITV’s Midsomer Murders. In 2010 he was introduced in a one-off episode as the then-current DC Tom Barnaby’s cousin, and a year later Neil Dudgeon’s John Barnaby replaced Tom Barnaby (played by John Nettles) as the main character of the show. Neil Dudgeon had previously appeared in one episode of the show as gardener Daniel Bolt, in series 4 (2000-01). Midsomer Murders has aired since 1997 and began airing its’ 20th series in March 2019.
Prior to Midsomer Murders, Neil Dudgeon has made appearances in popular shows such as Casualty, The Street and A Touch of Frost. In 1995, he appeared in an episode of Inspector Morse; ‘The Way Through The Woods’ as groundskeeper Dave Michaels. He joined the cast of BBC’s Messiah in 2001, where he played one of the lead roles, DI Duncan Warren, for four out of the five series. He also played the taxi driver in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), and Football League secretary Alan Hardaker in the TV drama United – a factual drama centred on the events of the 1958 Munich air disaster in which the Manchester United football team were on the aircraft.
