Miguel Induráin is a five-time Tour De France winner and a professional Olympic cyclist. His career began early and when he was just 18, he was the youngest winner of the national amateur road championship and at 20 he won a stage of the Tour de l’Avenir, and also became the youngest rider ever to lead the Vuelta a España.

In 1984, after riding in the Los Angeles Olympic Games, he became professional for Reynolds. For the next 11 years he rode the Tour De France, and 1991 saw his first Tour de France victory; a victory which was repeated four more times consecutively. He is the only five-time winner to achieve such a feat. Since the revoking of Lance Armstrong’s seven wins, he now holds the record for the most consecutive Tour de France wins, and shares the record for the most overall wins with Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Jacqus Anquetil.

Miguel Induráin won the Giro d’Italia in both 1992 and 1993; achieving two consecutive Tour-Giro doubles. After a 12 year Olympic hiatus, in 1996 he returned for the Games in Atlanta and won gold for a time trial. His other decorations include the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, the French Legion of Honour, the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports and the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit.
