Michael Keating is best known for his role as Villa Restal in BBC science fiction show Blakes 7, which aired from 1978-1981. Villa Restal was the only character to appear in all 52 episodes of the programme. He was known for his humourous lines and banter with the other characters. The show is set around 700 years in the future and is themed around political prisoners who are deported from Earth to investigate an abandoned alien spacecraft. Blakes 7 quickly gained a cult following and was watched by over 10 million people in the UK. It has recently been released on Britbox (September 2020).

Other notable appearances from Michael Keating include the Julius Caesar film as Plebian (1970) various roles in the Doctor Who franchise on both TV and radio (1977, 2004, 2006), and BBC’s The Bill (1984). In 1995, he reunited with his Blakes 7 co-star Gareth Thomas in a one-off episode of Casualty, and appeared on the show again in 2000.

Since 2005, he has been played Reverend Stevens in Eastenders sporadically, and appears regularly in the soap when a character has a religious ceremony, and in scenes with devout Christian Dot Branning (June Brown).
