Forward Martin Chivers made his Tottenham Hotspur debut in 1968, but he started really making waves in 1970 following the sale of Jimmy Greaves when he became the most prolific goal scorer of the team. In the 1970-71 season, he was nicknamed ‘Big Chiv’, and he was instrumental in the League Cup win against Aston Villa of that season, scoring both goals in the 2-0 defeat. Overall, Martin Chivers scored over 30 goals that season, seeing Spurs finish third place in the First Division.

During the following season, Martin Chivers was still on a roll. His seven goals in as many League Cup matches saw Spurs reach the semi-finals, and he was instrumental in their UEFA Cup Final win in 1972; scoring a double and ensuring a 3-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. 

In the 1972-1973 season, his immense goalscoring ability saw him guide Tottenham Hotspur to League Cup success once again, beating Liverpool in the quarter-finals and scoring against Molineux in the semi-finals, before going on to beat Norwich City at Wembley and claim the trophy once again.

He left Spurs for Swiss team Servette in 1976 and continued his career in football until 1983. During his Tottenham Hotspur career, he scored over 100 goals and was capped over 250 times.

Internationally, Martin Chivers played for England between 1971-1973, scoring his first international goal in 1971 in a 3-0 win against Greece. He was capped 24 times for England and scored 13 goals.
