Bay City Rollers lead singer, Les McKeown, joined the band in 1973 and went on to have a string of hits with them. They became popular very quickly and ‘Rollermania’ was the phrase coined to describe their following. They broke America in 1975 after a recording of their show was screened to an audience of 80 million, and on their first visit to the States, were mobbed by adoring fans in New York. In total, Les McKeown and the Rollers released 9 studio albums, the most recent of which was The Lost Songs in 2016, although Les McKeown officially quit the band in 1978.

The Bay City Rollers were the first of many acts to be described as ‘the greatest thing since The Beatles’ and their number one hits, ‘Bye Bye Baby’ and ‘Give A Little Love’ are is still popular now. They went on to have eight more top ten hits, including ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ (which reached number four in the UK charts), ‘Money Honey’ (reaching number three) and ‘Shang-A-Lang’ (number two).
