Hollywood and American drama actor Jimmy Smits is best known for his roles in Star Wars, The West Wing and Law and Order, amongst an impressive filmography. His career began in the eighties with Miami Vice and LA Law in 1984 and 1986 respectively. In 1994, Jimmy Smits joined the cast of NYPD Blue, where he played Detective Bobby Simone until 1998. During this time, he was received several Emmy nominations for the character and won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama (1996).

In Star Wars Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones (2002), he appeared as Senator Bali Organa, and reappeared in the following movie (2005), in which his character becomes Princess Leia’s adoptive father. He returned to the role in 2016 for the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Jimmy Smits joined the cast of The West Wing from 2004-2006, playing the role of Congressman Matt Santos, and he is also known for his roles as Miguel Prado in season 3 of Dexter (2008), for which he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Guest Starring Role on Television, and Nero Padilla from season 5 of Sons of Anarchy (2012-14). In total, he has won six major awards, including Emmy, ALMA and Saturn awards.
