Jim Davis is an American cartoonist, mainly known as the creator of the comic strip Garfield.  His other work includes Tumbleweeds, Gnome Gnat and Mr Potato Head.  He has written and produced the Saturday morning series Garfield & Friends as well as executive producer for The Garfield Show.  Before becoming a cartoonist, he worked for an advertising agency and began assisting in the comic strip Tumblewoods. He started a syndication which functions as an agent for cartoonists and comic strip creators, placing them in as many newspapers as possible on behalf of the artist.  Today it is syndicated in 2,580 newspapers and is read by approximately 300 million readers every day. Jim has founded the Professor Garfield Foundation which supports children's literacy.
