Darcey Bussell is a retired English ballerina and is one of the four judges on the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.
Darcey began her dancing career at age 13 attending the Royal Ballet Lower School; she then progressed to the Royal Ballet Upper School before joining Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet in 1987 and performed at the Royal Opera House. She then went on to play the leading role in The Prince of the Pagodas. Darcey went on to perform all major classical roles throughout her career, including Odette in Swan Lake, Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker and Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty which she performed in Washington in front of President Clinton. She retired from ballet in 2007 with a performance of Song of the Earth at the Royal Opera House in London and broadcast live on BBC Two. In 2012 Darcey took part in the Summer Olympics closing ceremony.
Darcey has also modelled clothes and jewellery and has also released six short books in a children’s series called Magic Ballerina. An autobiographical book of her ballet career, title Darcey Bussell was released in 2012.
