Brian Talbot’s career as a midfielder began with Ipswich Town in 1968 as an apprentice, before turning professional with the club in 1971. In the 1977-1978 FA Cup Final, Brian Talbot and Ipswich Town won the trophy, beating Arsenal 1-0. Prior to this, he had scored the first goal in the semi-final against West Bromwich Albion. He stayed with Ipswich until 1979, and was capped over 175 times professionally, scoring over 25 goals. In 2013, he was inducted into the Ipswich Hall of Fame for his performance with the club.
Brian Talbot transferred to Arsenal in January 1979 for a fee of £450,000, and in the same year helped them to a 3-2 victory against Manchester United in the FA Cup Final, making him the first player in over 100 years to win the FA Cup consecutively for two different teams. He also helped Arsenal set a club record in the 1979-80 season for reaching the finals of both the FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup, and in 2016 was voted 23 out of 50 in a poll of Arsenal’s greatest ever players. In total he made over 200 appearances for Arsenal and scored over 40 goals.
Brian Talbot was also part of the England international team from 1976-1980, and scored three goals for them in total. His managerial career began in 1988 and spanned for 20 years before his retirement, during which time he managed teams such as West Brom, Oldham Athletic and Oxford United.
