Ben Kingsley is an English actor who became involved in amateur dramatics whilst he was in college and made his theatre debut at the Aldwych Theatre, he was offered the opportunity of becoming a pop star but chose to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. He continued with his stage work for the next 15 years and then starred in small roles in television and film, including Coronation Street and Crown Court.

He then starred in “Gandhi” which won him the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Gandhi, the leader of India’s non-violent independence movement against the United Kingdom’s rule of the country. The film was nominated in 11 categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor for Ben.

He has since appeared in several films including Schindler’s List about the life of Oskar Schindler a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand Polish-Jewish refugees from the Holocaust by employing them in his factories.
