Alan Devonshire

Ex-West Ham midfielder Alan Devonshire made his debut for the team in 1976, and just three days later made his league debut against West Bromwich Albion, which saw West Ham scoop a 3-0 win. He rapidly became a fan favourite, and in 1980, and West Ham beat Arsenal 1-0 in the FA Cup final, with a cross by Alan Devonshire securing the goal scored by Trevor Brooking.

The partnership between Alan Devonshire and Trevor Brooking was instrumental in West Ham’s promotion to the First Division; West Ham reached the 1981 League Cup Final and was consequently promoted shortly after. They stayed there until 1984 when the club moved back down to the Second Division, and Alan Davidson stayed with West Ham until 1990. Over the course of his career with West Ham, he was capped 448 times and scored 32 goals. He also made 8 appearances for England internationally.

After a brief spell at Watford (1990-92), Alan Devonshire left league football and turned his hand to management. He managed Maidenhead United between 1996-2003, and rejoined them in 2015 after managing Hampton and Richmond Borough, and Braintree Town. He is currently still managing Maidenhead United.
