Matthew Broderick rose to fame in his early twenties in 1986 as Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The iconic film, about a teen boy who skips school for a day in Chicago, became the 10th highest grossing film of that ear and saw Matthew Broderick nominated for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy Award at the Golden Globes in 1987. In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

In 1994, he was selected for the lead role of Simba in Disney’s famous adaptation of The Lion King in the period known as the Disney Renaissance. The Lion King is the highest-grossing traditionally animated film of all time, and Matthew Broderick and the cast won two Academy Awards and a Golden Globe for the movie.

Matthew Broderick has been prolific on the film scene ever since; some of his other notable leading performances include Steven Kovaks in The Cable Guy (1996), Dr Niko in Godzilla (1998) and the title character in Inspector Gadget (1999). He has also starred in a number of plays and Broadway musicals, and to date he has won two Tony awards; Best Featured Actor in a Play for Brighton Beach Memoirs (1983) and Best Actor in a Musical for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1995).
