Keith Burkinshaw is one of the most successful managers of Tottenham Hotspur to date, due to his three trophies won for the club as manager there. His managerial career began in 1964, after a playing career spanning eleven years. He continued playing until 1968, overlapping with his role as football manager, at which time he decided to concentrate fully on managing. During his time playing professionally, he played for Liverpool and Scunthorpe United, amongst others.
He joined Tottenham Hotspur as manager in 1976 and during the eight years he spent with the club, he won more trophies than all but Bill Nicholson. The 1981 FA Cup Final in May was between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium; a replay of the original game, the match saw Spurs win 3-2 and the final goal was awarded Wembley goal of the century in 2001. In the same year, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa played the FA Charity Shield, resulting in a 2-2 draw which saw the two teams share the trophy for six months, Just one season later in 1982, Keith Burkinshaw and Tottenham Hotspur won the FA Cup Final again against Queens Park Rangers. The meant that the club had won the FA Cup Final a record-breaking seven times overall, matching the record previously set by Aston Villa.
Keith Burkinshaw’s last game as Spurs manager was the 1984 UEFA Cup Final against Anderlecht. Tottenham Hotspur won 4-3 on penalties, scooping another trophy and ensuring a lasting legacy for Keith Burkinshaw.
