Graham Roberts’ career began as a defender with the youth teams at Southampton and Portsmouth before making his senior debut with Weymouth. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in 1980, where he gained several honours including two consecutive FA Cups (1980-81, 1981-82). In 1984, they won the UEFA Cup, beating Anderlecht in the final on penalties. He scored in the second leg of the final, and scored the first penalty in the shootout. During his time with Spurs he was capped 6 times for Bobby Robson's England.

Graham Souness brought Graham Roberts to Rangers in 1986, where alongside former International teammate Terry Butcher he won the League and League Cup double. In 1988 he joined Chelsea, helping them gain promotion from the Second Division that year with 99 points.

In 1992 he entered management with Enfield, although still played occasionally for various teams until he hung up his boots in 1999. His greatest success as a manager was leading Clyde to a giant killing of Celtic in the Scottish Cup in 2006.
