Gareth Southgate

Authentic Signed Gareth Southgate Photos, Framed & Mounted Displays

A legend in his own making, due largely to the unforgettable performance by England in the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, Gareth Southgate is now the third manager, after Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson, to reach a World Cup semi-final with the England team.

Gareth Southgate began his playing career in 1988 with Crystal Palace, and he was a defender / midfielder until 2006 when he hung up his football boots to become Middlesbrough manager. During his career as a player, he won the League Cup with both Aston Villa and Middlesbrough (1995-96 and 2003-4 respectively).

In 1995 he caught the attention of England manager Terry Venables, and made his debut against Portugal in UEFA Euro 1996. He went on to appear with England in both the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000. In total, Gareth Southgate made 57 appearances for England and scored two goals. In 2016, after a spell of acting as temporary manager for England, during which time he won his first game in charge with the team, he was appointed as England manager on a four-year contract.

Gareth Southgate quickly became iconic in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, after leading England to the semi-finals for the first time since 1990. England beat both Panama and Tunisia, and earned a place in the quarter-finals by winning 4-3 against Colombia on penalty shoot-outs. After Gareth Southgate’s England side beat Sweden 2-0, securing their place in the semi-finals, the country went wild for him, donning his trademark waistcoat for the semi-final against Croatia. Although England suffered a 2-1 defeat at this match, Gareth Southgate’s success at the tournament will go down in history.
