Game of Thrones star Donald Sumpter has been on the acting scene since the sixties. His earliest notable television appearance was in 1968 Doctor Who serial The Wheel in Space, and the lead role of Donald Neilson in the 1977 film The Black Panther. Since then, he has been a regular on our screens, making appearances in popular shows such as Bleak House, A Touch of Fros, The Bill and Black Mirror, and cinema blockbusters such as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo playing DI Gustaf Morell (2011).

Donald Sumpter joined the cast of Game of Thrones in the first series, playing Measter Luwin, a loyal servant and tutor to House Stark. He stayed with the show for the first two series before his character was stabbed with a spear and later euthanised at his own request. Donald Sumpter appeared in 14 episodes in total. He was nominated for a Screen Actor’s Guild Award in 2012 for his performance in the show.

Since leaving Game of Thrones, Donald Sumpter has starred in many popular prime-time television shows, such as the three-part 2014 One Child, Monsieur Mabeuf in 2018’s Les Miserables and Zharkov in Chernobyl (2019).
