Sir Derek Jacobi is an English actor & stage director. Sir Derek Jacobi was recognised by Laurence Olivier and he became one of the founding members of the new National Theatre playing opposite Peter O’Toole in Hamlet. He spent eight years at the National Theatre, including playing Cassio in Othello, appearing in the film version later in 1965.
His big breakthrough came in 1976 when he played the title role in I Claudius, winning much praise for his role as the stammering Emperor Claudius.
He has appeared in many television dramas including Inside The Third Reich, in which he played Hitler, also the Charles Dickens drama, Little Dorritt .
Sir Derek Jacobi continued to play mainly in Shakespeare roles, Henry V; Becket, Macbeth and later as the voice Mr Jeremy Fisher in The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends.
In 2007 he appeared as Professor Yana who was actually the Doctors nemesis “The Master’ in Dr Who, later admitting it had always been his ambition to appear in the show.
Sir Derek Jacobi continues to appear in a variety of films and TV and to perform on stage receiving many awards for his work. He currently stars in two very successful TV shows ‘Vicious’ alongside Sir Ian Mckellen and also in ‘Last tango in Halifax’ alongside his friend Anne Reid.
