Charles Dance is an English actor
and film director. He first made
his screen debut in 1974 in ITV series, Father Brown but he became known for
his role, as Guy Perron in the Jewel in the Crown for Granada TV about the
final days of the British Raj in India during and after World War II.
He turned down the opportunity to
screen test of the James Bond role, but he played Bond creator, Ian Fleming in
the dramatized biography for Anglia television, Goldeneye, the title was later
used for a James Bond film. He has
also starred in many other television dramas such as Edward the Seventh, The
Phantom of the Opera and Bleak House for which he received an Emmy
nomination. He made a guest
appearance in BBC drama series Merlin and played the role of Tywin Lannister in
HBO’s Game of Thrones. He was
appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2006.
