Carole Ann Ford is most well known for her role as Susan Foreman in the popular BBC television series Doctor Who. She was the original and the first ever companion of the Doctor, and her character was the Doctor’s grand-daughter. Her character escaped their home planet of Gallifrey with The Doctor, prompting the time travel adventures portrayed on the show. She starred alongside the first Doctor, William Hartnell until the end of the second season, in the 1964 serial The Dalek Invasion of Earth. However, her character returned for the 20th and 30th anniversary specials of the show (1983 and 1993). Susan as the Doctor’s grandchild has been referenced in the series by subsequent Doctors.

Since her departure, she has appeared in a number of Doctor Who spin offs, and she most recently made an appearance on the 50th anniversary special, The Day Of The Doctor, in 2013, although she portrayed a different character, Joyce, instead. The episode included many of Doctor Who’s much loved stars including David Tennant, Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman and Billie Piper.

In addition to Doctor Who, Carole Ann Ford has starred in films; most notably she played Bettina in The Day Of The Triffids (1962) and Albertine in The Great St. Trinian’s Train Robbery (1966).
