Bernard Cribbins is an English actor, voice-over artist and musical comedian whose career spans over seventy years.
Bernard appeared in several films in the 1950’s, mainly comedies and including three of the Carry On films. He later appeared in The Railway Children as Mr Albert Perks, the station porter.
He was the narrator in the BBC children’s television programme the Wombles, which ran for 60 episodes in the early 1970’s and also was the narrator in the BBC radio programme the Wind in the Willows. He made some 114 appearances between 1966 and 1991 as the celebrity storyteller in episodes of Jackanory.
He also appeared as a pretentious guest in the Hotel Inspectors episode of Fawlty Towers. He has also appeared as Wilfrid Mott in Doctor Who, the granddad of Donna Noble who is played by Catherine Tate..
Later TV appearances have been in Dalziel and Pascoe, Last of the Summer Wine and Coronation Street.
In 2009, Bernard was honoured for his work in children's television with a Special Award at the British Academy Children's Award and received the OBE for his services to drama in 2011.
