Andy Cole had a glittering career as a striker between 1988-2008; he is the third highest goalscorer in Premier League history, with 187 goals overall.
After a successful career with Newcastle United, Andy Cole was sold to Manchester United in 1995 for a deal worth £7million, setting the record for the most expensive British transfer at the time. Despite joining halfway through the 1994-95 season, he scored 12 goals and played 18 matches.
His first full season with Manchester United saw many successes, including scoring the equaliser against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, securing the club a place in the final, which they won. He scored the second goal in a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough, and Manchester United won the Premier League title for the third time in four years and became the first ever side to win the double twice.
In the UEFA Champions league (1996-97 season), his goal against Porto was voted the season’s best European goal. Andy Cole scored the final goal against Liverpool in a 3-1 away win, securing United another consecutive title win. He emerged after the 1997-98 season as the Premier League’s top scorer, scoring 18 goals for the season including Manchester United’s goal of the season.
Andy Cole was revered along with Dwight Yorke as one of the most feared attacking partnerships in Europe, and the pair racked up 53 goals between them in the 1998-99 season. That season saw Manchester United win the treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League. He scored the winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, the winning goal in the Champions League semi-final against Juventus, and his 100th Premier League goal against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
In the 1999-00 season, he became United’s top scorer again, and scored 19 goals in 28 Premier League games. The following season, he scored 13 goals in all competitions, including four in the UEFA Champions League, which saw him break the record to become Manchester United’s top goal scorer of all time in European competition.
He was capped for England in 1995, and scored four goals in total for the International team, including a goal against Poland under manager Kevin Keegan.
