Alex Kingston is best known for playing the role of River Song in BBC’s Doctor Who, alongside tenth, eleventh and twelfth Doctors David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi. Her first Doctor Who appearance was in 2008 in ‘Silence in the Library’ where she was revealed to be a time traveller who had met the Doctor many times before in her timeline. She was initially on the show as a guest-star, but instead she became a returning character, starring in fifteen episodes of the show in total between 2008 and 2015.

Her storylines in Doctor Who include her reveal as Melody Pond, companion Amy Pond’s daughter, her on-off relationship with the Doctor, and her role in the Doctor faking his own death. Her last appearance was in 2015, in ‘The Husbands of River Song’ alongside Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi, where the character met her demise.

Prior to Doctor Who, Alex Kingston appeared in a number of British television dramas, including The Bill, Grange Hill and starring as Dr. Elizabeth Corday in ER from 1997-2004. More recently, from 2013-2016, she played the role of Dinah Lance in superhero fiction drama series Arrow.
