Martin Sheen, real name Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez, is an American actor who borrowed money from a Catholic priest and moved to New York City, deliberately failing the entrance exam to University so that he could pursue an acting career.
He was greatly influenced by James Dean and co-starred in a Broadway play, The Subject was Roses, later starring in the film and was nominated for Golden Globe Award as Best Supporting Actor.
During the 1960's to 1970's he starred in many television series, including Flipper, Hawaii 50 Columbo and the Streets of San Francisco. He received an Emmy Award nomination for best actor for playing Private Eddie Slovik in the film The Execution of Private Slovik about the only United States soldier to be executed for desertion since the American Civil War.
He is well known for his portrayal of President John F Kennedy in a miniseries ‘Kennedy’ and has also played Robert F Kennedy, United States Attorney General in the ‘Missiles of October ‘and played the White House Chief of Staff in the ‘American President’. Perhaps being most known for his role as Josiah Bartlett in the political drama ‘The West Wing’.
Martin is also known for his roles as a narrator, both in films television and radio.
Together with his son, Ramon Estevez, they have combined their real and stage names to form the Warner Bros affiliated company Estevez Sheen Productions.
