Former midfielder John Sheridan began his professional playing career with Manchester City in 1981. Over the next two decades, he played for several teams including Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers, Oldham Athletic, and the Republic of Ireland National team. After retiring from play in 2004 he took up club management, a career he maintains today.

Amongst other honours, John Sheridan helped Sheffield wednesday to win the League Cup by scoring the winning goal in the final.
