Doctor Who erupted onto our nation’s television screens in the 1960s, with a screeching TARDIS sound that has since become a familiar association with Britain’s television history. Just like The Doctor’s appearance after each regeneration, the series is constantly changing and adapting to meet the needs of the audience of the times. From William Hartnell to Peter Capaldi; Christopher Eccleston to David Tennant to Matt Smith, The Doctor has always been a driving force of who we are as a nation, defining us by acts of bravery and kind-heartedness that inspire each generation of children to go out and do the same. By his side is a friend, a companion – to rely on and to trust. For every Cyberman and Dalek, there is a Rose Tyler or a Martha Jones, showing that the values of companionship, goodness, and bravery will prevail. From the 1960s until present day, Doctor Who has been a staple of our nation; the Last of the Time Lords teaching us for over fifty years that the stars are only the beginning of the limit, and with compassion, kindness, and just a little bit of ‘wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey’ space travel, we can achieve the impossible.
