David Essex is an English musician, singer and actor who began his career touring with a band and in 1965 released his first single, releasing a further 7 singles in the 1960’s. His first acting role was the lead in the stage musical “Godspell” at age 23, two years later he starred in the film “That’ll be the Day” and then recorded his hit single “Rock On” which sold over a million copies and was awarded a gold disc. Other hit singles followed including “Gonna Make You a Star” and “Hold Me Close”. He also appeared in Stardust which was the sequel to “That’ll Be the Day”.

David toured the Country with his fan base creating hysteria similar to Beatlemania. He was voted the number one British male vocalist in 1974.

He has appeared in the stage version of Tommy and he played Che in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Evita with his record “Oh What a Circus” reaching number 3. He then went on to appear in the motorcycle racing film “Silver Dream Racer”, the soundtrack again reaching Number 3 in the UK singles chart.

David has continued to enjoy success appearing in West End musicals, recording hit songs, co-writing musicals and his autobiography “A Charmed Life” became a bestseller. He continues to tour the UK each year and release albums and has had success in appearing in television programmes including Heartbeat and Eastenders.
