David Attenborough

Sir David Attenborough is perhaps best known for his iconic voiceovers of wildlife documentaries such as Life. Having been involved with the BBC since the early 1950s, Attenborough has not only acted in multiple shows for the BBC, but also acted as administrator and controller, and later director, of BBC Two from 1965-1969. After this period, he expressed his desire to return to full-time programme making, and from this he created the Life series, which was so successful that the BBC commissioned follow up shows such as Life on Earth and The Trials of Life. Such shows detailed the behaviour and living patterns of various classifications of animals – finishing the project in 2008 with a documentary on reptiles and amphibians. Aside from wildlife documentaries, Attenborough has worked on two environmentally themed musicals with WWF, and has also turned his interest to the natural world of plants and nature in a miniseries of monologues titled David Attenborough’s Life Stories. His influential work with plants and animals has led him to have numerous species and fossils named in his honour, as well as being awarded multiple awards for his influence on British television.
