Carol Vorderman is a Welsh media personality, famous for co-hosting the game show Countdown with Richard Whitely and for her mathematical skills.
Carol studied engineering at College and earned a third class in all three years of her education at Cambridge, becoming a member of the “Nines Club”, she graduated with a third class honours degree. Her mother noticed a newspaper advertisement asking for a woman with good mathematical skills to co-host a quiz show. Her only contribution to the show was the numbers game and she became part of a five person presentation team. Over the years her contribution to the game show increased revealing her ability to carry out fast and accurate mathematical calculations, she became one of the highest paid women in Britain.
“One Last Consonant, Please Carol” a special show was filmed featuring her highs and lows during her 26 years on the show before she recorded her last Countdown in 2008.
She later hosted Loose Women for two or three shows a week initially, reducing to one show every fortnight as she qualified for a private pilot’s licence and now plans to fly solo around the world.
She is the presenter of the annual Pride of Britain Awards, on ITV and has hosted the event since they were first introduced in 1999.
