Angela Lansbury is a British-American-Irish actress whose career in theatre, television and film has spanned 7 decades.  She was born in London but to escape the blitz she moved to America with her mother and brothers and studied acting in New York, appearing in several films including “Gaslight” and the “Picture of Dorian Gray”.  One of her finest performances was in the “Manchurian Candidate”.  Angela moved to Ireland and continued with her theatre and cinema appearances including “Gypsy”, “Sweeney Todd”, “The King and I” and Disney film, “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”.

Angela then moved into television, and starred as Jessica Fletcher in “Murder She Wrote” which is one of the longest running detective drama series in television history.

Following this, Angela returned to theatre but withdrew due to her husband’s health.  She moved to America following his death and continued to work in television and films such as Law and Order, Nanny McPhee and Mr Poppers Penguins.  She then returned to Broadway and has earned many nominations and awards for her performances both in cinema, on stage and in television.

In Murder, She Wrote, Angela plays the part of detective Jessica Fletcher, a childless, widowed retired English teacher who is a mystery writer who has a better understanding of a case than the official investigators and always manages to trap the real murderer.  The series ran for 12 seasons with 264 episodes and is one of the most successful and long running television shows in history.
